The path of THE 1813- bishopric’s law in the diocesan administration

Abstract

This paper deals with one of the resolutions of the Year XIII Assembly: the Bishopric Law. This measure, as well as other ones that were linked to that, intended to resolve problems in the ecclesiastical arena. We specially refer to the clause related to the retroversion of the primitive faculties towards the Bishops or the Vicars in the United Provinces. This disposition imposed that all the ecclesiastical issues had to be sent to the diocesan sees, and this originated a traditional form of ecclesiastical organization that would collaborate with the breakdown of the regular clergy and the reorganization of the churches in the Rio de la Plata according to the political governments, as we intend to prove in this article.
